ABOUT US

Some pairings are instant classics. From the get go, they just make sensePeanut butter and jelly. Wine and roses. Bogie and Bacall. Gin and juice.

And then there’s us.

Chris is an ethnically ambiguous Hawaiian surfer who thinks LA winters are cold. Melinda is a quasi-albino bookworm prone to heat stroke. She’s a lifelong vegetarian; he lives exclusively on pork products. He’s an insomniac; she’s an Olympic-caliber sleeper. She prefers to measure thrice and cut once; He doesn’t believe in measuring tape.

We think you see where this is going. . .

About the only thing we agree on is that Malibu is to be avoided at all costs. Of course, this is for very different reasons. For Chris, it’s because the Pacific Ocean’s not up to standard (standard being a balmy water temperature of 80° F). And Melinda—she just doesn’t like sun, waves, bathing suits, or flip flops. So basically all of Chris’s favorite things.

Yet somehow, our unlikely partnership works. Kind of like Sonny and Cher, except with more staying power and less singing. Although we will sing if asked.

Melinda Smith

Melinda Smith

Melinda has a background in writing and television development. She also has over 10 years of experience in branding, digital marketing, and advertising, with a specialty in brand messaging, storytelling, and conversion-focused copywriting. Previously, she was a partner in Nan Fisher Entertainment, where she created, developed, and executive produced a number of reality television projects, including “Stars & Chefs” with the CW Network and a female MMA docu-soap with VH1. She has an M.A. in psychology, but she promises to use her powers of persuasion for good, not evil. As an undergraduate she couldn’t decide between English literature (fictional stories!) or history (true stories!) so she majored in both. In her personal life, she also answers to Mrs. Saranchock.

Chris Saranchock

Chris Saranchock

Chris is a born and bred storyteller. From the moment his mom started dragging him to her Hawaiian storytelling workshops, he was hooked. He has a diverse background in acting, coaching, screenwriting, and film and commercial production, with on-set experience both above and below the line. As an actor, he’s represented by MKS & Associates, but he prefers working behind the camera as a writer, director, and producer. He has been writing with Melinda since 2012. Their first original screenplay together, “Home,” was a 2013 Kairos Prize semi-finalist. Chris has a degree in business management from the University of Hawaii. He also attended the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, where he played water polo and powered through two very cold winters.
